  Is an AWD SRK possible?
Posted by: AnimalCage - 10-07-2017, 08:29 PM - Forum: General FUV Discussion - Replies (43)

Arcisomnio, Arcivinco.  Future I dream, Future I conquer.

I drive a lot.  Therefore, I think a lot.  When I consider my future vehicle purchases, I must take into consideration my environment.  It is weighted heavily.  Living in Massachusetts, any vehicle I own should be able to handle the rough four-season weather I am so blessed with.  If not, it becomes a seasonal vehicle, also known as a toy.  Or motorcycle...

My front-wheel-drive Toyota is a great car.  It is not great in the snow.  Before the Arcimoto, my next purchase was to be either a Subaru or a truck, to better deal with inclement weather.  I understand the need/desire for selectable drivetrains, as found in Jeeps and trucks, and selectable drive modes found in some cars.  But I like the idea of AWD.  Permanent, full-time AWD to me seems ideal.

Here's my thinking:  I have driven front-wheel-drive for a long time.  Its easy to slide the back end around, as there is no control on those tires (steering or power).  Its also a lot of fun with a handbrake.  With the SRK, as much as I love almost everything about it, the back end gives me pause.  There are three things about the SRK I am curious about:  first is real-world range, second is doors, third is how the back end performs on bad roads.

With the dispensing of drive shafts and the advent of electric motors powering individual wheels, and a software differential controlling motor speeds, is it possible that the most idyllic world for electric vehicles, especially reverse trikes, would be AWD?

My question, then, is:  has anyone considered adding a third motor to the vehicle to power the rear wheel?  I know, let them have some success with, and enjoy, their current vehicle.  I'll certainly enjoy mine.  But that moto-somnius...

In California you are required to fill out a credit application when purchasing a new vehicle, even if you are paying for it in full with a check.  That was the case when I purchased a new Prius in 2011.  Does anyone know if that policy exists in Oregon?

  Anxious in Atlanta
Posted by: drfoto - 10-02-2017, 11:37 AM - Forum: Introduce Yourself - Replies (3)

Other than FL preorders I guess I'm just about as far away from SRK country as possible! So anxious for SRK news I was excited to find this forum. I'm a BMW i3 driver for about two more months when my lease is up. I'm a low mileage driver and my wife and I are going to try downsizing to a single vehicle at 65/64 years respectively. An SRK would be a perfect niche vehicle for me, I only wish production was in full swing. In an interesting aside, I discovered I have an indirect connection to Arcimoto founder Mark Frohnmayer in having taken a relative of his to Kenya a number of years ago on photo safari. The "It's small world!" bell rings yet again. Rock on Arcimoto!

...until I finally get my SRK! I only found out about this forum from Mark's mention in this morning's email. I pre-ordered back in February and my lucky number is 1257. I'll be selling my car and replacing it with my SRK since I work from home and mainly use my car within 5 miles of my house. Thankfully, my central North Carolina climate will let me do that.

  SRK in O-H-I-O
Posted by: Brevet05 - 09-29-2017, 02:22 PM - Forum: Introduce Yourself - Replies (3)

Hello, and greetings from the Buckeye State!
I'm a newly-reserved SRK fan and initial investor. I became interested in sustainability a few years back, and have converted our home to solar energy (although going off the grid isn't realistic in Ohio) and have driven a BMW i3 BEV for the past three years. I also have ridden a Can Am Spyder for the past 9 years, and see the SRK as a great successor to the Spyder. In all honesty, I was really planning on getting the Morgan ev3, but when I visited the Morgan factory in Malvern, UK this summer, learned that they have no plans to sell it in the US any time soon because of domestic demand and reluctance to jump homologation hurdles.
The good news is that the SRK really better aligns with my personal philosophy, so I was looking in the wrong place anyway. I'm excited to start seeing these on the road, and will patiently wait for the 1800 of you who got here sooner to blaze the trail for me. I hope that the options and prices become available soon, as I'm trying to figure out my final configuration.

I just found this forum- not sure why I was not aware of it earlier. I am an investor in the original signature series vehicles- number 6. I live in Olympia WA and am a retired carpenter and am very aware of the future that is lurking in future years for my grand children and other future inhabitants of our small planet. I enjoy building things other than houses. I have built two 30+foot trailerable/trimarans (the 2nd using carbon glass vacuum bagged to high density foam) and two electric trucks to launch and retrieve the boats and to serve as local transportation. My wife and I ride recumbent trikes and I added an electric assist to hers which I ride when I want to go some where fast. Thinking about how to make this trike weather independent is what lead me to fall in love with the Arcimoto concept.

I am eagerly awaiting the completion of my Arcimoto and my wife and I plan on  travelling  to Eugene by train and to drive the vehicle home to Olympia. Definintely  will be stopping to top up the batteries but we have been driving EV vehicles for a number of years and that is a non- issue.
