FUV Rider Training

I can understand about no test drives in bad weather, but they could have stayed around until the end of the scheduled time and taken time to answer questions. And they could have done some advance publicity, maybe just notice in the local paper.

I was very disappointed as this might have been my only chance to test drive one. But in AMs defense they had to be in Steamboat Springs by night time and that meant going over the continental divide where it was most certainly snowing as opposed to the rain we saw.

There may be a periodic glitch in the Marketing & Tour Team’s efforts, but mainly due to unforeseen circumstances. After meeting Eric and Joe, Marketing Team members, and following Arcimoto for nearly a decade, I feel very comfortable that we are in good hands, before, during, and more importantly after the sale.

- they shouldn't have bailed (meaning, just left)
- they should have advertised locally
- the person there should have been able to answer questions, and made time to do so ("The Arcimoto rep didn't take time to answer many questions and left early.")
- you should plan for snow in the Rockies in Oct (and June) and pad the schedule (or avoid COL completely if you have to cross the cont divide - take the north route in summer and go southern in winter)

We are lucky in that we have a huge shopping mall parking lot that is set up as a motorcycle training and test course. We went there yesterday and i set up the three wheel driving course for my wife to practice for her upcoming road test.   Cone weave, left curve, stopping in a box, right curve, obstruction swerve and quick stop.  She ran everything 5 or 6 times with a few runs at higher speeds.  she got really good at handling the FUV and putting it right where it should be in all the test. 

My main point is that practice like this is good idea for any one wanting to drive one of these vehicles.

Thanks for the tips on the MC endorsement process.  My wife and I will wait until we have officially configured our Arcimoto and have a confirmed delivery date prior to doing the written test and scheduling the riding portion after taking delivery.  No need to rush the process.  My wife had zero interest in the FUV until she drove it.  She got off with the typical FUV grin on her face and said, “maybe we should get 2”.

My wife aced the driving test today.  She did several runs over the past week and a half with (get this) me as instructor, and got more confident each run.

Try to find out what the test course is and what you are tested for. I went and filmed a test prior to ours, and went to the parking lot where the test is given and set up cones close to where they were for the actual test.
 In WA  we have 6 things that the driver is tested on. 1- cone weave, 2- left hand 90degree  curve between two lines 3- stop with front wheel in box   4- right hand curve - (reverse of # 2)     5- obstacle   swerve      6- quick stop 

Practice helps all of these and doing them as fast as one can, improves ones skill.  The stopping in a box is easy if you use the hydraulic brakes but tough to do with the regen brake.  The obstacle swerve is a little unnerving  at first but practice makes it a piece of cake and the FUV can handle sharper ess turns than you can give it.  The quick stop is easy as the brakes are absolutely amazing - obviously using the hydraulics. 
Let me know if you want more specific course lay out - things like distance between cones for the ones using cones and size of box and radius of curves.

Thanks for the info.!  Taking a look at the actual course is a good idea.  Perhaps the guy that tests locally will let us do some practice runs before we schedule........unlikely.  If we are familiar with the controls, aware of how the FUV responds/performs, and feel comfortable behind the handlebars we should be good to go. We are both eager for the official Arcimoto invite to order and schedule our testing.

Note:  Perhaps Arcimoto’s legislative specialist will have proposed a universal autocycle definition fully endorsed by the National Conference of State Legislators NCSL and amended on a national level and the FUV will be MC endorsement and helmet exempt in all States by the time we take delivery.  ?
