  Production timeline update
Posted by: DanPDX - 04-28-2019, 04:47 PM - Forum: General FUV Discussion - Replies (21)

So I asked arcimoto where things were as far as production, if we are still on track etc.
He mentioned “We'll have vehicles rolling off the line in the coming weeks”
I asked what those vehicles would be for, and was told for company vehicles, test vehicles and then onto customer vehicles.
He noted I would likely be contacted late May to early June to finalize payment and schedule delivery.
That last little bit let’s me know I’m probably going to be mid to late June. Still was nice to hear something, ANYTHING!
I will be attending the open house which should be fun.

Excuse typos as I used my phone and too lazy to proof read

Good afternoon!

This week, I've accepted a job opportunity at Arcimoto. I don't think it's a super great idea for an employee of Arcimoto to be administrator of an unofficial FUV forum, so I'm looking for someone else willing to take over the site.

Any volunteers? Shoot me a message!

  Speed vs mileage
Posted by: jimball - 04-25-2019, 10:23 PM - Forum: General FUV Discussion - Replies (3)

I know that an electric vehicle is the opposite of an ICE powered vehicle where ICE city mileage is lower than highway mileage.

With the FUV, iirc, the range numbers are calculated based on an average 35 mph city driving speed.  Range decreases at highway speeds.  Range also decreases the heavier the load being carried in the vehicle.

My question:  It there a guideline by how much range will decrease at increased speeds?

I live next door to Pittsburg, Ks. and do a lot of shopping in Joplin, Mo. which is about 35 miles away on fairly level countryside.  25 miles of that trip is on a 55mph highway.  My wife & I are both plus-sized riders.  Once in Joplin, we will drive another 5-10 miles in city driving.

Will we be be cutting it too close to consider driving the FUV to Joplin?   Joplin has several charging stations, but none are close to anything where  we could occupy ourselves for a few hours while The FUV recharged.  Exception being a Casino west of Joplin a few miles.  Rolleyes

An alternative is to drive paved county roads, avoiding the highway.  It would be possible to drive at 35 mph almost all the way, with only 3-4 miles at 55mph speeds.

In looking around Oregon laws regarding motorcycle endorsements I found some confusing information. First it defines an autocycle as having a steering wheel.

https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2017R1/...5/Enrolled
SECTION 2. “Autocycle” means a motorcycle that:
(1) Is manufactured to travel on three wheels;
(2) Has a steering wheel for steering control;
(3) Has nonstraddle seating; and
(4) Is equipped with a manufacturer-installed three-point safety belt or safety harness.

So the Arcimoto in Oregon is not an autocycle.

But then they carved out the Arcimoto for not needing a motorcycle endorsement:
(13) A person who does not hold a motorcycle endorsement may operate a motorcycle if the person is:
(a) Within an enclosed cab; [or]
(b) Operating a vehicle designed to travel with three wheels in contact with the ground at speeds of less than 15 miles per hour[.]; or
© Operating an autocycle

  Can anyone here write apps?
Posted by: jimball - 04-10-2019, 10:47 PM - Forum: General FUV Discussion - Replies (1)

I have an idea for an app for EV/FUV owners who want to do a little cross country.

Take a route planner like google maps or similar and tie it to the EV charging station database.   Enter your location and destination.  The app charts the route, the mileage, and shows all charging stations along the way with the distance between them.

Maybe this already exists in some form?

  Potholes and the rear wheel?
Posted by: 4dthinker - 04-09-2019, 08:24 PM - Forum: General FUV Discussion - Replies (7)

I drive around my city needing to dodge ever increasing pothole development. It occurs to me that my strategy of weaving in or out to miss them with the front and back tires  of my little Transit van will have to change else the center rear wheel of the FUV will always end up hitting every hole that passes between the 2 front wheels.

This winter was abnormally bad on the local streets, and the city is slow to repair the more significant potholes.  The smaller ones are left to grow a bit before they'll be patched up.

Curious I am how anyone who has driven a 3-wheeler deals with similar winter-worn streets?
