  Windshield material & windshield wipers
Posted by: jimball - 11-10-2016, 09:31 PM - Forum: General FUV Discussion - Replies (8)

I'm concerned as to why we haven't seen an SRK fitted with windshield wipers yet.   I suspect that Archimoto may have discovered that their windshield material (a hard plastic) cannot stand up to the harsh action of wiper blades + dust, grit and bugs being ground into the surface that will be normal operating conditions every time the wipers are used.  I do not know of any plastic that can take that abuse and not end up scratched all to hell in short order.  Custom formed safety glass is a hellaciously expensive proposition in the relatively limited quantities Archimoto would use for the first couple of years.

Looking for comments from initial purchasers
Posted by: miamisunray - 10-31-2016, 03:01 AM - Forum: General FUV Discussion - Replies (15)

Hello all,

I am interested, and I am sure a lot of pre-order SRK folks also are anxious to hear what the initial owners are thinking of their SRK's?

I have a pre-order myself, as does a good friend of mine here in Miami Dade County Florida. So far we have both come up with a few suggestions that might benefit SRK owners such as flexible solar panels for the poly carbonate roof .....A window on the driver side when fully enclosed ... An extremely efficient battery charger to give the SRK a few extra miles in case one finds one self out in the boondocks somewhere out of charge etc.

Hope everyone is enjoying the initial run of us are Kays and we can hardly wait to receive hours in the near future! As an extra question, does anyone know if it's possible to determine exactly what number in line the rest of us are to receive our SRK's?

Thanks all and I will be looking at this forum now that I have posted myself

  Where are we?
Posted by: DanCooper - 10-14-2016, 08:45 PM - Forum: The West - Replies (16)

May as well get started here.  I am in Casper, Wyoming.  Actually a few miles out of town and 1000 ft. above Casper's 1 mile high.  We get a lot of sunshine but when it is bad it is really bad.  Blizzards can appear suddenly and not only in Winter.

I ride a motorcycle as much as possible, whenever it is above freezing, the roads aren't slick, and it isn't raining hard.  Riding when it is cold helps me grow my fur, so I don't mind cold nearly as much as some people.  Today it is blowing about 35 mph and I drove the motorcycle to work, but I am used to these conditions.

I am living in a passive solar home which uses no fossil fuel for heating, cooling, or electricity.  I like to show it off to show that we don't have to go back to the stone age to get off fossil fuels.  I want to extend this to transportation.  I figure an Arcimoto SRK would be good for 80% or more of my driving.  Most Casper driving can be done at 40 mph or less, but quite a few cross-town trips involve 60 mph.  Also I drive up the mountain a lot for sports.  It is only 15 miles or so, but is 3500 feet above Casper.  I figure the SRK should be able to do that.

  Great SRK Video

This video was released via Autoblog on December 10, 2015 but it's still timely and is a great "get to know" SRK video.

Well worth the watch.

  Production
Posted by: DanCooper - 10-07-2016, 06:04 PM - Forum: General FUV Discussion - Replies (111)

OK, I am still concerned about production schedule.  Somebody posted that there are 1100 reservations.  How long might it take to work through that?  My personal decision is that if I expect to wait longer than a year, I will stay on the list, but I will look at an interim solution to renewable-energy local travel, such as an e-bike or an e-car.

The transition from R&D to production is one of the most dangerous times for a start-up business.  There is a tendency to gild the lily, to keep improving the product while postponing production.  The hard decision must be made, how good is good enough for a production startup.

Then there is the question of the target production rate.  A very low production rate, like 1 a week for this type of product, could likely be done in house.  Beyond that it requires the resources of a much larger business, either by farming out production or by a large investment in a manufacturing facility.  Either approach is risky.  A much larger business may not care much about the needs of a small client.  Negotiation and liaison are necessary and difficult.  A new manufacturing facility requires management, financial, and engineering skills very different from those found in a small prototype business.

I hope somebody at Arcimoto is on top of these issues.
